As Eccher has matured as an artist over the past half century, he's found he's been increasingly focusing on truth, justice and originality. While this may range from making an open political statement on a bathroom graffiti painting to creating a continually morphing portrait in one of my Tiered paintings, his goal is to stimulate thought. It may be deeper philosophical thought, or it may be simply dreaming of a meditative existence in a secluded cabin in a flower field.
There are few subjects he's not interested in exploring and speaking to. For him, it's more about what he says and how he says it, and if he's saying something that accurately catalogues his existence at this moment in time. Because of this, for him, one style cannot be used to translate all subjects. Therefore, he's focused more on developing a consistent visual language with brushing, spraying, scratching, scribbling, dabbing, erasing, rubbing, writing, cutting, drawing, dripping, printing, stamping, stenciling, smearing, gelling, layering, destroying, defacing, ripping, and reconstructing. He then applies these techniques accordingly, depending on what he's attempting to say with a work.
An example of such work would be a Tiered Painting of his, which involves layering artworks on top of each other and using LED lights to reveal and modify the bottom piece of art. Ultimately, his goal with every painting is to leave the viewer with a unique discovery that he/she/they can ponder anywhere from an hour to days to a lifetime. The longer the pondering exists, the more accomplished he considers the work.
